What is Botox®/Dysport®?
BOTOX and Dysport are both abobotulinumtoxinA neurotoxins used for temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines. They block signals between the muscle and the brain, ultimately preventing muscle contraction in a localized area to relax the muscles and reduce and often eliminate wrinkles.
What is the procedure like?
Treatment is a relatively fast procedure, very low doses of abobotulinumtoxinA are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles. There is no need for an anesthetic and has minimal to no downtime. The effects are very localized and, when administered by one of our experienced clinicians, will look and feel natural.
Results of a smoother complexion will become apparent within two to ten days post-treatment; however, will continue to work for up to two weeks, continuing to reveal improvements. The overall results may last from four to six months, depending on the area treated. It is recommended for patients to receive maintenance treatments in order to maintain optimum results.
How long is a treatment?
If you are a new client, expect to be in our office for approximately thirty minutes to one hour. We will review your medical history, go over the procedure and expectations, and answer any questions you may have. The procedure itself only takes a few minutes. In addition, there is no downtime involved, allowing you to resume your daily activities immediately after treatment. Follow-up treatments should take approximately 15 minutes.
What are the benefits?
- Diminish the appearance of facial wrinkles such as crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines
- Diminish the appearance of wrinkles near the upper lip, corners of the mouth and chin
- Prevent the development of new facial wrinkles
- Deliver natural looking results
Are there any side effects?
Although side effects are rare, injection site reactions may occur post-treatment. These side effects are normal and should subside within 48 hours. Such side effects may include headaches, pain, bruising, redness and swelling. We recommend for our patients to avoid rubbing the treated area or laying down during the first few hours post-treatment.
Botox is not recommended for individuals who present with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome as they may be at an increased risk of serious side effects, as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoiding blood thinners, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen and alcohol, for a few days prior to treatment, may lessen the chance of bleeding and bruising.
