Lumecca IPL Treatments at Wellness 360 Plus in Tampa, FL

Lumecca IPL Treatments

Here in Florida your skin works hard and after time it can start to show. No worries, Wellness 360 Plus has the technology to get your skin looking great again with Lumecca intense pulsed light, also known as IPL. This powerful light tackles unwanted spots and redness to improve skin tone while delivering the added benefits of smoother texture and reduced pore size giving you the renewal you need.

How does it work?

Lumecca is the most powerful intense pulsed light technology that uses a bright light which filters out most wavelengths except those taken up by pigment and blood vessels. Without breaking the skin, the light energy penetrates just below the skin’s surface to destroy the blemish- and spot-causing blood vessels and melanin below. The body’s natural skin repair mechanisms then remove the damaged tissue and produce a smoother skin appearance. The advantage to IPL systems is that downtime is usually very minimal. While redness simply dissipates, brown spots first turn darker before flaking off.

What areas of the body can be treated?

The IPL is ideal for the face and décolletage, but can be used on virtually any area of the body in need of skin renewal, such as hands, arms, legs, and back.

The device allows us to treat a variety of skin types and imperfections, including the following:

  • Minimize age and sun spots
  • Improve rosacea
  • Improve vascular lesions
  • Minimize freckles
  • Decrease pore size
  • Damage caused by sun

Who is the best candidate?

IPL treatments are ideal for healthy women and men who want to improve the appearance of multiple flaws, including sun damage, aging, acne, rosacea, enlarged pores, vascular lesions, and fine lines without undergoing surgery. Your skin type and laxity will dictate the subtleties of treatment.

We can tailor your IPL treatment regimen depending on your desired results and the issues you wish to address. Since IPL has such a wide range of capabilities, it can deliver different levels of strength and meet various requirements for recovery time.

How long will my IPL results last?

As long as you take care of your skin following treatment, which includes wearing sunblock every day, IPL results are permanent.

How many IPL treatments will I need?

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session, with greater results after multiple treatments. Your treatment regimen will depend on your goals as well as skin type. With that being said, your participation in IPL treatment is of utmost importance and your IPL treatments should be performed in a series spaced about a month apart. Patients usually need 3 treatments to achieve full results with touch-up appointments twice a year to maintain the best results.

What can I expect during and after treatment?

As with any treatment we provide, we will do everything we can to ensure your safety and comfort during your session. We will first clean the treatment area and then apply a cool gel to your skin before using the IPL device.

Lumecca puts out a bright red light and a sensation on your skin that feels like a snap from an elastic band. Any discomfort that does occur will end as soon as the treatment is finished. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subside within an hour.

Over the next 24-48 hours you may see darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of the skin tone. After treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

Is there any downtime from an IPL treatment?

With little skin damage involved, IPL recovery time is short. Immediately following an IPL treatment, your skin will feel warm and may be red, usually subsiding quickly. Any additional warmth or redness can be treated with cold compresses if preferred. In rare cases, redness or dark spots take a week or more to fade. Our acne patients have reported longer recovery times.

Are there any special instructions I need to follow before or after receiving an IPL?

Before: Discontinue use of Accutane® for six months, Retin-A® for two weeks and glycolic acid and alpha-hydroxy acid products for a week before your treatment. Avoid sun and sunless tanning for four weeks. Do not take aspirin or other blood thinners for at least three days before your treatment. You cannot be treated while you have infections or sores in the area.

After: You must avoid sun exposure entirely for several days. Apply moisturizer and sunscreen daily. Cold compresses and steroid creams may be used as necessary. Avoid irritating your skin, and keep away from the sun and sunless tanners for a couple of weeks. Following these steps will provide you with maximum and long-lasting results. In fact, with proper skincare, results of an IPL are permanent.
